SPARTA — The Blessed Kateri Squires and Squire Rose Circles joined together to collect canned foods to support the needs of the Sparta Food Pantry. Since Hurricane Irene, the demands on the Sparta Food Pantry have increased dramatically. Following the storm and for several weeks thereafter, the Squires and Roses combined forces at their Sparta church and collected donations from parishioners and friends. Over 150 pounds of canned food, cereal, pasta, and other items were collected to help the effort. Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Nick Cutrone acknowledged the efforts of the group, “The Squires and Roses are a blessing to our parish and this community. Their number one focus and priority is conducting acts of charity to those less fortunate.” The Sparta Ecumenical Council of Churches sponsors the food pantry and donations are distributed each week at the Sparta First Presbyterian Church to those in need. Margaret Plevin of the Sparta First Presbyterian Church also acknowledged the efforts and support of the Blessed Kateri Squires and Roses.
