Celebrate Octoberfest, help the F.O.P.
SPARTA The Mohawk House in Sparta is gearing up for its second annual Sparta Police F.O.P. Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 29. The preparation has begun at the restaurant as they anticipate a big turnout, and the Sparta Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P) look forward to another exciting fundraiser. Being benevolent and promoting local community ideals is a common thread throughout the Mohawk House family. Owners Steve and Rachael Scro work with all local Sussex County farms, including their own, to promote farm to table cuisine utilizing indigenous fresh produce and meat. Along the same lines, the restaurant also enjoys hosting benefits for local organizations and townspeople. The Scros are particularly proud of this Oktoberfest event . “This is a very important benefit for the Mohawk House, for the Sparta police and for the town. And we put everything into it,” said Steve Scro. The F.O.P which serves as the labor organization for law enforcement officers continually fundraises. “The Sparta Fraternal Order of Police raises money throughout the year placing it in a fund which then gets distributed to town organizations and personal causes of those in need,” said Officer Kurt Morris, Vice President of Sparta F.O.P., Loge 26. “Our emphasis is on helping people locally - we also sponsor town little leagues.” The Mohawk House is the main sponsor along with other friends and supporters: Don Chirichello of Audi of Newton/Volkswagen of Newton; Eric Nielsen and Bill Snouffer of Franklin Sussex Auto Mall and the Sparta Stop &Shop. Tickets cost $35 a person which includes a large selection of Oktoberfest draft beers and authentic German fare such as apple cider baked beans, old world German pretzels and cider dogs. In addition, the Mohawk House is providing entertainment of all sorts. “It’s all about fun and a good time in the outside area from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. We are planning activities and giveaways such as German growlers. There will be live Oktoberfest music during the event and immediately following the Supernova band will perform at Mohawk House’s Halloween costume party,” said Scro. “It’s an annual event that is getting bigger and bigger, and it helps out a lot of kids.” Sparta Police F.O.P.
