Character Counts! is a widely implemented approach to character education. It’s a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian framework that teaches the “Six Pillars of Character”: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. The program, which has been implemented in Sparta Middle School and Sparta High School, is designed to be integrated into all areas of the curriculum. Fifth-graders at Mohawk Avenue School will utilize the “six pillars” to create school environment based on these traits. The program is made possible by a grant received by Mohawk Avenue School principal, Mr. Michael Gregory.
