Newton - Sussex County Community College will host its annual career symposium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, in the Sussex Bank Theater at the college. The symposium will showcase three of the college’s degree programs: criminal justice, fire science technology, and paralegal studies. In addition to the panel discussion, there will also be a number of exhibits and area employers on campus for recruitment and networking. Attendees are encouraged to bring their resumes. “The career symposium is a cross between a job fair, a career day and a college open house,” said Sally Gibson, coordinator of the symposium and a counselor at the college. “It is an opportunity to meet and talk with SCCC faculty teaching in the criminal justice and paralegal majors, as well as to network with professionals from the broad field of criminal justice. “The panelists will include faculty and representatives from area legal firms, the US Secret Service and the N.J. State Police. There will be exhibits and time to talk with the faculty and professionals. The event is open to the public and SCCC staff will be on hand to offer information on college curriculua and programs.” The symposium will begin with a panel composed of college faculty members. They will be joined by Special Agent Dennis Letts, of the U.S. Secret Service; Sergeant Wendy Cooney, of the N.J. State Police; Teri Henninger, of Legal Services of Northwest N.J.; Susan Hughes, of Laddey, Clark and Ryan, LLP; Karen Schulte, of Kelly & Ward, Esq.; and Joann Masaar, of Selective Insurance. “The Symposium is a great opportunity to meet participating criminal justice employers who are able to show our students what career opportunities they offer,” said McGovern.
