Counseling center offers May classes

    Newton - The Center for Prevention and Counseling will offer four courses in May, aimed at improving the skills of professionals in the field. Continuing education credits will be awarded to those who successfully complete each course. The courses are offered by the center’s School of Health and Addiction and will be conducted at the center, located on the third floor at 61 Spring St. in Newton. “Biopsychosocial Assessment” is designed to help attendees write biopsychosocial reports and to learn how to think clinically. The class will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fri., May 5. “Treatment Planning” is a refresher course in evaluating clinical assessments, writing diagnostic summaries and documenting on-going treatment needs. The class will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fri., May 12. “Nicotine Addiction” will provide detailed information about current nicotine addiction treatment and programs that help prevent relapse. The class will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fri., May 19. “History, Theory, and Regulations” is designed for those who are new to the field of substance abuse prevention. Participants will learn about all the types of prevention, including the leading prevention models. The class will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mon., May 22.
