County Haz-Mat team helping in Louisiana

SUSSEX COUNTY-County Sheriff Robert Untig, in conjunction with the New Jersey State Police, other counties and municipalities, has deployed members of the Sussex County Haz-Mat Team to assist in recovery operations in Louisiana. On Monday, Sept. 19, Undersheriff Virgil Rome, Sergeant Mitchell Ellicott, Corporal Raymond Loevlie, Sheriffs Officer Christopher Bork, Corrections Officer Andrew Boden, and County Road Department Employee Jason Miller joined a caravan of law enforcement of emergency vehicles headed for New Orleans. They are prepared to handle Haz-Mat and decontamination assignments along with other law enforcement details. The three vehicles have in tow one decontamination trailer, one utility trailer of supplies, and a sport utility police vehicle for personnel and equipment. Sheriff Untig expressed his appreciation to the Newton Wal-Mart, Newton Shop Rite, Weis Markets and Home Depot for donating provisions and personal hygiene supplies. On Sept. 21, Undersheriff Rome described the devastation as unimaginable. The Sussex County team is stationed in St. Bernard Parish and assigned to D-Con with the Camden County Sheriff's Office. They are prepared to spend a minimum of 14 days there. Other Sheriff's personnel may also be deployed on a rotation basis as needed.
