Crop Walk returns with major success
SPARTA The Sparta Ecumenical Council in conjunction with Church World Services revived the Sparta Crop Walk after an eight-year hiatus. The crop walks are community-wide events organized by local congregations to raise funds to end hunger. Members of the Sparta United Methodist Church, Blessed Kateri Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, and the Institute for Spiritual Develoment, all participated in the event. A total of over 100 walkers made the journey from the Sparta United Methodist Church to Station Park and back. After completing the walk, participants enjoyed food and refreshments served by the Sparta United Methodist staff. Approximately $4,000 was raised to help feed the hungry and 25 percent of that total will go directly to the local food bank in Sussex County.
