Andover - A crowd of over 250 people recently attended Sunday’s grand opening of the Morning Glory Thrift & Gift Shop, an initiative of Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Intervention Services (DASI). Morning Glory is an ongoing fundraiser designed to help support the programs and services DASI offers to survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Sussex County. Morning Glory encourages the community to recycle, reuse, and re-gift, promoting both the green aspect of their business, as well as the low cost of their merchandise. The majority of the merchandise is donated, with some jewelry, art, and high end antiques on consignment. Also on consignment are several Longboards by Original Skateboards, a Newton-based company supporting Morning Glory’s expansion into additional space. Food for the event, was donated by Salt, Barone’s Restaurant and Lockwood Tavern, Jimmy’s Italian Tavern, Bella Italia, Cheddar Alley, and Sheridan’s. Music was provided by local musicians Peter Lister and Michael Alexander, while Sussex County Rental Center provided coolers and a popcorn machine. Free giveaway items and a gift card raffle were sponsored by TD Bank. The shop, located in the Great Andover Antiques Village on Main Street, is primarily run by volunteers, with a part-time manager as the only staff. Volunteers are welcome to work in the shop, both in sales and in processing merchandise. Volunteers with trucks are also needed to help pick up donations. For more information regarding volunteer opportunities, or to arrange for a donation, the Morning Glory shop manager can be reached at 973-786-0018.
