Earth Day celebration April 21 at county solid waste facility

    Sussex County - County residents who visit the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority’s solid waste facility at 34 South Rte. 94 in Lafayette on Friday, April 21, will be able to partake in a number of special activities in celebration of Earth Day. The authority and the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group will host an Earth Day display table from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide environmental education information to county residents. The visual display table will be set up on the lawn area next to the resident recycling center. Free document shredding will be offered to Sussex County residents (limit of five boxes per person). Members of the county health department will be on hand to demonstrate their hazardous waste response vehicle. In addition, utilities authority and watershed management group staff will be on hand throughout the day at the display table to talk with residents and answer questions. Hourly tours of the landfill will be provided to interested residents. And residents will be given free trees to take home to plant in their own yards or gardens. A number of Sussex County high schools and environmental groups have been invited to participate in the day’s events. The Earth Day activities are also being supported by donations from ShopRite of Sussex County, A&P, Weis Markets, and Cerenzio & Panaro, P.C. For information, call 973-579-6998.
