SPARTA - Although mild disasters occur frequently throughout the earth and major disasters are not uncommon, they still catch most of their victims totally off guard. Is your family adequately prepared to deal with an emergency? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sparta is hosting an emergency preparedness workshop on Oct. 28, to help families organize, plan, and prepare necessary items to be ready for an emergency. The workshop will include demonstrations on water purification, preparing a 72-hour kit, communicating when telephone service is unavailable, first aid, and storing and cooking with food storage. Developing a family emergency preparedness plan will be discussed and local public emergency plan information will be available. The emergency preparedness event will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 95 Pinkneyville Road, Sparta from 2 - 5 p.m. For further information contact Robert Mathusek at (973) 726-9330 or visit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints self reliance Web site at www.providentliving.org.
