Events at Newton Memorial Hospital
Tai Chi for seniors Sparta - Beginning Jan. 5, Newton Memorial Hospital is offering a seven-week Tai Chi class for the mature years, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on successive Thursdays. One of the major difficulties of advancing years is the progressive loss of stability, balance, resilience and confidence often resulting in serious falls and long periods of recuperation. Among its many benefits, Tai Chi can help restore and maintain balance, improve circulation, lower the center of gravity, deepen breathing and safelya limber up joints and muscles. Classes will be held at the Sparta Health and Wellness Center, 89 Sparta Ave., Sparta. As with any exercise program, participants are urged to check with their physician before beginning. Attendees should wear loose comfortable clothes. Cost is $57; pre-registration is required. For information or to pre-register, call 973-579-8340. Look good, feel better Sparta - The free “Look Good Feel Better” program will teach participants how to maintain their appearance while undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy treatment, including makeup, scarf and wigs. The program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, is non-medical and will not interfere with medical treatments, make any medical or physical claims, or replace medical services in any way. It is also product neutral and does not endorse any brand, product or salon. The certified cosmetologists are volunteers who participate without compensation.
