Expo to highlight Sparta's businesses
Sparta - The Sparta Chamber Council, an affiliate of The Sussex County Chamber of Commerce, will host its annual expo from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thurs., May 18. The theme for this year’s event, which serves to highlight local businesses and their services and products, is “See what’s growing in Sparta.” The event will be held at the Lake Mohawk Country Club and is open to the public. The affair includes door prizes and hors d’oeuvres. Admission is free. “We really encourage the entire community to stop by and take a look at what’s going on here in Sparta. It’s really a great opportunity to get familiar with businesses you may not even know are here,” said Suzanne Sowinski, chairperson for the expo. Honor Society students from Pope John High School will serve as ambassadors to help distribute information about the event, help direct visitors, and answer questions. “The idea was to get the students involved with the local business leaders and to get an education about what everyone does for a living, what products are sold, the different services offered. An event such as this, where everyone is volunteering their time, shows the students that volunteering and community service doesn’t end when school is over,” said Sowinski. “This is the one place to see over 50 Sparta-based businesses under one roof. Residents are at an advantage when they have dedicated merchants and professionals to provide the area with the desired goods and services the community wants,” said Sussex County Chamber of Commerce President Tammie Horsfield. Proceeds from the expo will fund scholarships for Sparta residents looking to continue their education in the business field.
