SPARTA — The Sparta Education Foundation (SEF) is gearing up for its fifth annual 5K Krogh’s Turkey Trot. The 5K race and 1 Mile Fun Run will be held again this year on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 24. Last year over 1,800 runners participated in one of Sparta’s best-attended community events which has become the new, Tradition Before the Tradition. In 2010/11, the Foundation awarded over $100,000 in grants to the Sparta School District. The funding enabled all four Sparta Schools to purchase equipment and supplies, which would not have been possible without the support of community-minded businesses and families in the Sparta School District. The Sparta Education Foundation Board of Trustees is pleased to be able to help support programs and to bring new technologies into Sparta’s classrooms that enhance the overall educational environment. Now entering its sixth year, the Sparta Education Foundation is continuing to encourage community and private sector relationships that serve the interests and needs of Sparta’s public schools. Other SEF fundraisers include Pathways to Excellence, which allow sponsors to purchase engraved pavers placed in the walkway at the Sparta Theatre, and Cabaret, an evening of dinner and dancing at the Lake Mohawk Country Club. The Sparta Education Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to provide funding for programs that enhance the learning environment in Sparta public schools.
