Fitness expert offers free lessons to prepare for Sparta 5K
Sparta - Lisa Mullahy, owner of Women’s Fitness & Recovery, LLC, in Sparta is offering free training sessions for adults of all ages interested in walking in the Sparta 5K on Saturday, April 22. The lessons are especially designed for those who have never walked in an organized walking event, but have always wanted to, and people who don’t know where or when to start getting ready, and who would like to have some motivation and training advice. The free walker training sessions are taking place three times a week during the weeks leading up to the Sparta 5K (3.1 miles) event. The training sessions are being conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and at 6 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays (weather permitting). Participants meet at Mullahy’s facility in Suite 205 in the Sparta Health and Wellness Center, located at 89 Sparta Ave. She then leads training walks for distances best suited to the participants’ own personal endurance level. During the sessions, Mullahy helps beginner and intermediate level walkers by teaching proper warm-up, stretching and walking form. She also calculates their target heart rate zones and teaches many things about cardiovascular exercise and how to apply it to fitness training and life. Sessions progress in distance to help participants safely increase endurance. Start times of groups are divided into fitness levels. Participants must sign a medical readiness questionnaire/release prior to participation. Space is limited. To register, call 973-729-0222. Mullahy donates a great deal of her time and energy to helping the local community throughout the year, and is especially passionate about helping others get active and fit.
