Free training for servers to promote alcohol safety

    SUSSEX COUNTY — The Center for Prevention and Counseling will be offering two free TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) training sessions: Sept. 19 at Sussex Wantage Library and Oct. 3 at Louise Child’s Library in Hopatcong from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The trainings teach local servers how to prevent drunk driving, underage drinking and alcohol abuse. Session participants will become certified in the TIPS program, the leading alcohol server training program in the country. Participants will receive a TIPS certification card valid for three years. TIPS is also recognized by over 70 insurance companies as a vital risk management tool. These trainings enhance the people skills of the servers, sellers and consumers of alcohol. Program participants are trained by certified instructors to detect the signs of intoxication and gain the confidence needed to intervene effectively to prevent alcohol related problems. Participants also learn to identify underage people and people who are already intoxicated.
