Friend 2 Friend 5K Run renamed in memory of Dr. Rota

ANDOVER — The 6th annual Friend 2 Friend 5KRun/Walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 25. The race has been renamed "Rota's Rally" in memory of the late Dr. Joseph Rota, "physician, friend and strong supporter of our mission," according to Mare Galeos, race organizer. The race will start at 10 a.m. at the Andover Professional Building, 135 Newton-Sparta Road at Lawrence Road, Andover. Check in begins at 8 a.m. Walkers and runners can sign up for a fee of $18 before Sept. 15 and $20 after Sept. 15. All proceeds go to benefit the Sussex County Women's Forum's "Free Baseline Mammogram" program. Refreshments will be provided to all participants, along with music by DJ Johnny of HomeGrownRadioNJ. Race applications are available at Merriam Gateway, Black Bear Fitness, Frogmore's Country Store, Dominick's Pizza in Newton, Andover Town Hall, Shop Rite's bulletin board, Newton Hospital, the offices of Dr. Galeos, Dr. Rubino and Image Care Centers for Women in Sparta, Newton and Vernon. Registration is also available on-line at Active.com. Participants raising $100 in sponsorship funds will have the race fee waived and receive a ticket for a special drawing.
