Girl scout troop honors gold award recipients

Sparta — Girl Scout Troop #674 honored the following girl scouts, who were recipients of the Gold Award, the highest award in girl scouting. A national award with national standards, it represents the recipient's time, leadership, creativity, and effort to improve her community. The girls focus on a variety of projects to solve community issues and improve lives. Patricia Chesnolovitch completed her Girl Scout Gold Award in June 2005, for teaching arts and crafts to inner city children in the SKEET program. She will graduate from Sparta High School in 2006 and plans to attend college majoring in meteorology. Ashley Dickerson completed her Gold Award in October 2004, for helping young girls in an outreach program in Newton plant flowers to beautify their community. She is a 2005 graduate of Sparta High School, and will be attending Northeastern University in Boston. Her plan is to study criminal justice. Amanda Heckenberger completed her Girl Scout Gold Award in August 2003, for teaching young children water safety on Lake Mohawk. She will graduate from Sparta High School in 2006 and plans to attend the University of Colorado in pre-med, in hopes of becoming a pediatrician. Jessica Lane will be completing her Gold Award this fall, for helping her church, Sparta United Methodist Church, paint and restore their chorus room. She will graduate from Sparta High School in 2006 and plans to attend college for a career in elementary education or nursing. Christin Lencsak completed her Gold Award in June 2005, for teaching children at the Center for Young in Newton the concepts of robotics and the impact it has on the world and society. She graduated valedictorian of Pope John High School in 2005, and will be attending the University of Richmond, Va., majoring in environmental studies. Kelly Littleton completed her Girl Scout Gold Award in October 2004, for helping young girls in an outreach program in Newton create a mural for their community room. She is a 2005 graduate of Sparta High School, and will be attending the University of Delaware, majoring in university studies. Her plan is to work in business. Girl Scout Troop #674 is lead by Claudia Lencsak, Diane Littleton, and Lisa Heckenberger.
