Andover - Dr. Michael Grano recently opened his own chiropractic office in Andover after working at several offices, including that of his brother, Dr. Andrew Grano of Hamburg. The brothers are both Sparta natives and graduates of Pope John XXIII Regional High School. Their interest in chiropractic care began when they were involved with the grueling sport of wrestling while in high school at Pope John. The intense practices and matches often produced an aching back, muscle soreness, and painful joints, but they found relief with chiropractic adjustments and therapy. Michael Grano also discovered the benefits of chiropractic care when he fractured two of his spinal vertebrae in a high-school football game. He quickly recovered following chiropractic treatment. His interest in a career in chiropractic care was further fueled while visiting his brother, Andrew, when he was in training at Sherman Chiropractic College in Spartansburg, S.C. “I was very impressed with the patients’ positive response to the treatment provided,” he recalls. “This included the realignment of the spine to reduce the interference on the nerves responsible for every function in the body.” Dr. Grano noted that many members of the “baby boomer” generation have turned to conservative preventative care, because they are much more proactive about their health then in years past. “People are now realizing what chiropractic has taught for years - give the body it’s natural ability to heal itself under the care of a chiropractic physician,” he explains. Shortly after graduating from Villanova University in Philadelphia, he enrolled in N.Y. Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Following graduation, he was fortunate to work alongside one of the country’s leading sports medicine chiropractors, chosen to be the only chiropractor treating the athletes at the Barcelona Olympics. “I am happy I had the experience treating athletes because it allows me to treat not only athletes, but also adults who experience athletic-type injuries, such as shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle/foot problems, as well as the more common back and neck pain,” he notes. Both offices offer chiropractic, soft tissue massage therapy, electric stimulation, ultrasound, heat and ice therapies, and accept almost all major medical insurances.
