Grants available to local artists

    SUSSEX COUNTY - As the agency officially designated by the county freeholders to deliver arts and heritage services to Sussex County, the Arts & Heritage Council is accepting grant applications from all Sussex County visual and performing art groups as well as from other non-profit organizations that are planning arts projects. Applicant non-profit organizations must be 501 C-3 corporations, as determined by the IRS, and be governed by a board of directors that is responsible for policy and finance decisions. Groups must also comply with certain federal regulations and have a one-year track record of programs and services. Municipalities, schools, and libraries may qualify. The council urges eligible organizations to appoint a member of their board of directors (usually the treasurer) to attend the Arts Grant Workshop at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Arts Council office located at 9 Moran St. in Newton. At least one member from the applicant organization must attend the workshop in order for the organization to be eligible to receive funds. Call the Arts office at 973-383-0027 to reserve a place. The application deadline is Oct. 19. Grants will be awarded for General Operating Support (GOS) for visual and performing arts groups and for Special Projects (SP) presented by non-arts organizations. Those applying should discuss with their goals with their respective Boards before applying.
