Head-on collision injures three in Sparta

Sparta - Three people were injured in a head-on collision on Route 94 on Dec. 10 at 10:06 p.m. Sparta police report they received a call about an accident at the 29.9 mile marker and found a silver Pontiac Sunfire driven by Don Wagenhals, 46, of Sparta and with passenger Lynn Wagenhals, 45, of Sparta had been struck by an Isuzu Amigo driven by Israil Garcia, 24, of Andover. The Wagenhals had been traveling north on Route 94. Gaicia was traveling south when his vehicle crossed the center- line and struck the Wagenhals vehicle head on. The Sparta Township Fire Department extricated the Wagenhals from their vehicle with the Jaws of life, They were flown to Morristown Hospital via medi-vac helicopter. They both suffered multiple injuries. Garcia was also flown to Morristown Hospital with multiple injuries. The Sussex County Crash Team is investigating the accident. Garcia was charged with the following: assault by auto, driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended and presenting false documentation. Bail was set in the amount of $10,000.
