Hilltop fundraiser will have you seeing stars

Sparta - The usual bake sales and car washes just weren’t enough for the eighth graders of Hilltop Country Day School. They wanted something that would give back to the community while helping to offset the cost of their class trip to Colonial Williamsburg. The eighth-grade students, many who had an early love of astronomy, came up with the idea for something more exciting - a “Star Night.” After months of planning and anticipation, their hope of an evening dedicated to astronomy will be realized beginning at 7:30 p.m. tonight (April 27). Local astronomy clubs will bring their expertise and their telescopes for an evening of star gazing. Also present will be scientists from Schering-Plough, who will discuss the part of the brain responsible for vision. Using multimedia presentations and models, these brain scientists will explain just how humans see stars. An astro-photography slide show, set to music, will run throughout the evening. Complimentary refreshments, including “make your own s’mores,” will be served. Admission is $20 per family. For information, call 973-729-5485 or send e-mail to rcherill@hilltopcds.org. Hilltop Country Day School is located at 32 Lafayette Rd. in Sparta. For additional information, log on to hilltopcds.org.
