Hilltop School students celebrate Read Across America'

Sparta - Hilltop Country Day School in Sparta participated in the recent “Read Across America” celebration, an annual event since 1998, sponsored by the National Education Association. The event focuses the country’s attention on the importance of motivating children to read, as well as helping them master basic skills. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss, who epitomized a love of learning. Dr. Seuss’s use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching children the basic skills they need. The sixth-grade class presented an all-school assembly as part of this celebration. The fourth- through eighth-grade students then visited the Early Childhood and Lower school (preschool through third grade) classrooms to read to the classes.
