Information session scheduled for Mansfield Trail dump site

    BYRAM — Two information sessions have been scheduled for Thursday, December 8, regarding the Mansfield Trail Superfund toxic waste site from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the municipal building on Mansfield Drive in Byram. Representatives from the EPA, DEP, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services will be in attendance to discuss the hazards of the site, testing for contaminated homes, remediation, cleanup and health hazards. Maps and photos will be available and a power point presentation will be given at 7 p.m.. All representatives will be answering questions from the public. The location of the toxic dump site is above the East Brookwood section of Bryam and has been found to contain high amounts TCE, a solvent known to cause cancer and contribute to other health problems including liver, heart and to the neurological system. TCE has leached from the site and has affected 18 homes in the area. More testing is being done to identify any other affected areas and residences.
