SPARTA-Local area women are invited to attend the next two meetings of the GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Sparta at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, and Monday, Nov. 7, at the Lake Mohawk Country Club. The club seeks women who wish to meet women with common interests, get involved with community projects, or who simply want to have fun. New members are invited to participate in the activities of the club's various departments: The conservation department finds ways to explore nature, enjoy the outdoors with family, and searches for new ways to conserve. An ongoing activity for the department is a sneaker recyling program. The education department seeks to inspire a lifelong love of learning in children and parents and to increase educational opportunities in the community. The Health Department promotes health consciousness by encouraging improved eating habits, exercise and de-stressing techniques. For October, the department will promote the "Tie a Ribbon Campaign" to encourage breast cancer awareness. A low-cost CPR course is planned for November. The home life/art department organizes activities that promote positive family values and improve quality of life. This month's fall festivities are scheduled for Oct. 15, and will include hayrides, scarecrow making and pumpkin picking. The department will also coordinate a food drive for the "Pass It Along" program, which distributes food and clothing to local charities. The art department provides creative activities, such as evenings out for adults, activities and events to enjoy with children, and projects to serve the community. On Oct. 18, the department has planned an ornament-making get together for the Holiday Wish Tree. The international affairs department promotes the understanding and acceptance of international causes, events and traditions and informs members of global issues impacting world cultures. Currently, this department is raising money for Heifer International in an effort to end hunger. The department will also be distributing collection boxes for UNICEF. The membership department's goal is to maintain and strengthen membership through activities, recognition and participation. The department is initiating a gourmet lunch club Oct. 4 at Common Grounds, and will host a couples dessert party Oct. 7 and a scrapbooking event Oct. 19.
