Junior women's Club offering gift wrapping to raise funds

SPARTA — With the holidays around the corner, the Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta is hoping to make a very busy time of year a little less stressful by offering a gift-wrapping service. Everyone is welcome to bring their gifts to the Sparta Parks and Recreation Department, at 22 Woodport Road, on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. to be beautifully wrapped for a small fee. The fee will be based on the size of the gift to be wrapped, with small packages starting at only $1. Any size or shape of gift can be wrapped, from jewelry boxes and books up to bicycles and sleds. This service is designed to provide a rewarding way to multitask during the busy holiday season: wrapped gifts mean one less thing on the to-do list; and all proceeds from the service will go to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. For JWCS First Vice President and Event Co-Chair Janelle Daly, the connection to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is especially poignant, as her father sought cancer treatment at the Center. He recently lost his battle with the disease. “This event is a way to celebrate the gifts of the season while we raise money for Memorial Sloan. And for me, this is a way for me to honor my father’s memory,” said Daly. As part of the JWCS fund raising efforts, the club recently held a class on how to wrap the perfect present. Janelle Daly led the class, and showed the participants a range of tips and tricks, from tying a beautiful bow to incorporating unusual items to make a gift stand out under the tree.
