Kids ride free at Sparta Day

    Sparta - The 31st annual Sparta Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at the Mohawk Avenue School in Sparta. The event will feature an arts and craft fair, amusement rides, food, games, and ongoing entertainment. Sparta Day 2006 is sponsored by the GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta and the Sparta Parks and Recreation Dept. The event will be held rain or shine. More than 100 vendors, including many local businesses, will be represented. This year’s Sparta Day will feature a free “Sparta Kid’s Country” children’s entertainment area with inflatable rides that will include a giant slide, super bounce house and a 55-foot obstacle course. There will also be a petting zoo, activities and demonstrations for children of all ages. The kids’ area will be to the right and rear of the Mohawk Avenue School. Buckles & Bows of Upper Lake Plaza in Sparta has agreed to be the “Platinum sponsor” by co-sponsoring “Sparta’s Kid Country” with the Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta. Other sponsorship opportunities are still available. A flag ceremony will be performed by the Elks Club at 10 a.m. in front of the Mohawk Avenue School. The Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta is seeking vendors to show their wares.
