SPARTA — The Blessed Kateri Knights of Columbus Council recently hosted a special ceremony at the Sparta parish. Every year since 1960, the Knights of Columbus host the running of the Silver Rose. The Silver Rose is a sculpted silver rose transported each year from Canada, down through the United States, and eventually to Mexico in tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Blessed Kateri is the only parish in New Jersey to sponsor a Knights council, a Columbian Squires circle for young men, and now a Squire Rose circle for young ladies. At the ceremony, a painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe from parishioner Dorothy Armstrong was placed on the altar. Members of the Squires and Squire Roses led a procession into church with Father Patrick Rice and Deacon Drew Calandriello.
