Sparta - Being rated best in the state of New Jersey for 2005 is not a reason for the Sparta Public Library to rest on its laurels. In Fact, the library is once again pushing the envelop in search of new and exciting services to offer the Sparta community. During a recent interview, Library Director Carol Boutilier promised February will bring some unique and innovative changes to the library. Kicking it off, will be “Free Fax February.” This includes both sending and receiving faxes. “As of now, it will be available only in February but if it we can, it may be an ongoing offering,” said Boutilier. The free fax service is in addition to the notary services the library offers free of charge to Sparta residents. The library is also making available to the public an Ellison machine, a cutting press that can handle large volume of material at a time. “This machine will prove to be invaluable to teachers, Girl and Boy Scout leaders, and for parents hosting birthday parties,” said Boutilier. “It will be a handy tool for anyone doing projects with kids.” As part of the project, the library will be offering classes on how to use the machine and show different ideas for which it can be used. The library is now offering a new scan-to-email service, which allows users to scan a photo, document, or article and easily attach it to an outgoing email. The cost of the service is 50 cents per scan. The library is already thinking of spring and for March it expects to introduce photo printing. If everything goes as planned, the library will be able to offers quality photo fishing printing from discs, memory cards or sticks or directly from a digital camera. The cost per copy has yet to be determined; however, Boutilier hopes to keep the costs lower than the price of the local kiosk machines.
