Literacy Volunteers to collect old phones, cartridges
Sussex County - Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County will launch a post-holiday fund-raiser to collect used cell phones, older PDA’s, and empty ink-jet cartridges. These will be sent to EcoPhone, an environmentally concerned firm, that will either refurbish those units that can be salvaged, and/or recycle those beyond reclamation. EcoPhone will make donations to Literacy Volunteers based on the units delivered through the fund-raiser. The non-profit organization will use the monies to help train its tutors, and to provide curriculum materials for those needing literacy training. The fund-raising effort will begin after the holidays and run until February. Collection points for old phones, cell batteries, PDA’s, and depleted ink-jet cartridges have been arranged at the following locations: * Olympus Gym in Newton * Sparta Recreation Department (basement of Sparta Library) * Sussex County Libraries: Main branch, Franklin, Vernon, Sussex-Wantage, Hopatcong and Newton * Library of Sussex County College (tentative) * Sussex County One Stop Career Centers of the N.J.
