SUSSEX COUNTY -Twenty-nine members of the Lenni-Lenape Council joined 10,000 other Girl Scout members and volunteers at the 2005 Girl Scout national convention/50th council session held recently in Atlanta. The gathering celebrated 93 years of girl scouting and focused on key priorities to transform girl scouting for the 21st century. The national convention, held every three years in a different location within the U.S., provides an opportunity for representatives from Girl Scout Councils across the nation to come together and discuss the future of the Girl Scout movement. This year delegates voted on key proposals related to the organization’s core business strategy, aimed at better positioning Girl Scouts to maintain its role as the best leadership development program for girls in grades K-12. At the Lenni-Lenape Council’s annual meeting, held in April, seven local volunteers were elected as delegates to the national convention. They are Gwen Grace of Vernon, council president; Betty Garger of Sparta, council CEO; Frank Heary of Wayne, council board member; and Nancy Lomax of Paterson, Wanda Maltese of Allamuchy, Patricia O’Connor of Wayne, and Christy Petrasek of Frankford.
