NEWTON — Auditions for the timeless rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, by the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, will be held at Drama Geek Studios on January 8 and 9. All those auditioning should have a minimum of 32 bars of a song from the show prepared. Please bring sheet music as well as a digital version of the song you are auditioning with.
Said Drama Geek Studio's director, Joshua Reed, “We decided to do this show because it happens to be one of my all-time favorites. I’ve seen my father perform in the show several times and I now have the opportunity to direct and produce a production that he can be in with me.”
As for the ages and abilities of performers, Reed said actors must be at least be in high school and auditions are open to performers new and old.
“We will be performing the show in the Performing Arts Center at Sussex County Community College the weekends of April 13 and 20,”: Reed said. “The Performing Arts Center is where all of our performances take place because we are the official community theater of Sussex County Community College.”
In a world filled with technology and where people often opt to text rather than talk or have face-to-face interactions, acting is a welcome diversion.
“Acting requires one-on-one direct communication between human beings,” Reed said. “When you’re performing you do not have the luxury of hiding behind a screen or cell phone. Acting forces you to be present and in the moment and it enables you to express your emotions."
