SPARTA From July 9 through July 13, 24 children attended Vacation Bible School at St. Marys Episcopal Church. The theme this year was aquatic. Titled Operation Overboard: going deep with God, it featured bible stories and lessons, activities and games, crafts and experiments. St Marys Shaffer Hall was transformed into an underwater world complete with deep-sea characters including Ocho, a talking Octopus, and a deep-sea diving bell. The theme also tied in with St. Marys annual fund raiser, which is also water related – raising $10,000 to support a fresh water project in rural Haiti – by filling water bottles with pennies, other coins or cash.
