— The third Annual Sparta Mud Run was held on Sunday, to benefit Project Self-Sufficiency of Sussex County.

The Sparta Mud Run, hosted by Sparta Evangelical Free Church, is an annual event to help raise funding and awareness for Project Self-Sufficiency of Sussex County. Children ages six to 12 ran a ¾ mile course and ladies 13 and older ran a 1.5 mile course that ended with ten different muddy obstacles to maneuver through.

With an emphasis on fun, friendly competition and the spirit of giving, participants got muddy while climbing through obstacles like the “Muddy Water Crawl,” the “H2OhNo Tube Slide” and the “Over-Under Climb.”

Awards were presented to top finishers by age category along with a grill out for all participants.

This year's event had record participation this year with 270 runners ranging in age from six to 70 years old.

The event raised $3,500 for PSS, which support programs to empower low-income individuals and families and to improve the quality of life for them and their children. PSS provides daycare, children’s camps, food, and training for individuals and families in the NJ counties of Sussex, Warren and Hunterdon.

SEFC is a family-focused church, committed to loving God, growing together, and serving others in our community.
