Annual tank pull for wounded veterans
CLIFTON — For the fourth consecutive year, the Columbian Squires Circle #5177 from Saint Kateri in Sparta joined together with their counterparts from circle #2192 at Saint Jude’s in Budd Lake for the annual N.J. Knights of Columbus tank pull competition to benefit wounded veterans. Dozens of teams from Knights of Columbus councils, local ROTC units, corporations, and friends participated in the event where an 80,000 pound military tank must be pulled by teams of 20.
The state Squires team “Esto Dignus” included Squires from the two circles along with their Knight counselors and state Squires chairman Peter Briody. Saint Kateri was represented by Squires Jack Lubertazzi, Hayden and Maddox Corbin, Michael and Matthew Dolecki along with Squire counselors Nick Cutrone, Kris Corbin, and Mike Dolecki. St. Jude’s Squires included Jon Rohe, Ken Joseph and Alex Sammarco along with Knights Tom Rohe and Steve Sammarco. Their fundraising efforts raised $4,000 which was donated to the wounded veterans fund. This was the 3rd highest fundraising total among the organizations participating at the event. The event has raised more than $900,000 over the last 6 years.
