— The Center for Prevention and Counseling is excited to announce the hiring of Natishia McKown as the new coordinator for the Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities here in Sussex County. McKown brings with her nearly 15 years of counseling experience working with children and adolescents and served as a Rockaway Borough School Counselor for grades K-8 as well as a Staff Clinician in a group home for children of abuse. She is passionate about educating and empowering youth to make their own healthy decisions. McKown holds an M.A. in Counseling and Psychology and School Counselor Certification from Centenary College in Hackettstown.
“The Coalition has made such a profound and positive impact in the communities it serves and I am honored and thrilled to be a part of this dedicated group of individuals.” Mckown said.
The mission of the Coalition is to create healthy and safe communities that are free from substance use disorders, addiction and related issues among people of all ages throughout Sussex County. In its 18 years of existence, the Coalition has become a well-recognized resource for schools, parents, students, community members and the media looking for information and programs about alcohol and other drugs; including signs, symptoms, effects, current local and national trends, youth violence and prevention tools. The Coalition meets on the second Friday of every month at the Center for Prevention and Counseling located at 61 Spring Street, Newton. For more information or if you’re interested in getting involved, please contact Natishia at 973-383-4787.
