Team Members are; Josh Knospler, Karthik Selvaraj, Jonathan Poret, Sophia Giralt, Steven Zukowski and Ula Bitinaitis. They're lead by their teachers and advisers; Head Coach: Mark Meola and Assistant Coach: Margaret Incantalupo
This is the second time that a Sparta Robotics has had a team earn its way to the World Championships. The first time was back in 2015 when Sparta Robotics sub team 5249 C took second place in the state for coding and earned a trip to Worlds.
This time team 5249 Z "Infinity" earned its way to the Worlds Championships by being the best in New Jersey. Earlier this year the Z team took first place in the New Jersey State Championships defeating a field of 48 of the states very best. They also are the recipients of a Tournament Finalist Award and Excellence Award and a Design Award. New Jersey has 143 competitive VEX Robotic teams.
At Worlds the Z team obtained an overall record of 10 and 3 during the four day competition and made it all the way to divisional quarter finals.
"The Z team had an amazing run and are what I would consider world class in their ability and skills," the Head Coach said. "By any relevant measure they are the very essence of what a team strives to be. They are highly competitive and capable yet they posses the humility and character that have made them so admired by their teachers, friends, family and fellow student engineers not just in New Jersey but across the world."
They went from being fierce competitors before losing in the quarter finals to being the greatest fans of their friends on the Millburn Team 7405 P that actually went on to take first place in the world later that day. We are so very proud of our team they are awesome people."
