' Black Forest' exhibit opening at Van Kirk Museum
Sparta — “Traditions from the Black Forest” will open at the Sparta Historical Society’s Van Kirk Homestead Museum on Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 1-4PM with 2PM talk. This fall exhibit pays homage to the cultural influences from the Black Forest of Germany and Austria. “Traditions from the Black Forest” explores architecture, cuckoo clocks, meerschaum pipes, magnificent carved plaques and other traditional artistry seen in the early days of Lake Mohawk and other local German communities throughout the Sussex County area. This exhibit includes artifacts from our own collection as well as local collectors. The Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT also contributed their intricately carved meerschaum pipes for display.
