NEWTON — Sussex County Community College (SCCC) was recently awarded a check for $3,060. Visions Federal Credit Union presented Jon Finocchiaro, veterans services coordinator at SCCC, the check in support of the Student Veterans Emergency Relief (SVER) program.
Visions Federal Credit Union holds their Community Denim Days, a fantastic program where employees donate money to a community fund in exchange for wearing jeans to work on Fridays. Donations are made on a monthly basis to worthy causes across all regions Visions serves. This program currently generates over $36,000 in donations per year.
Visions’ Donation Committee felt November was a great month to highlight a veteran services program. The SVER program at Sussex County Community College offers support to student veterans during semester breaks. It provides much needed funds to assist veterans with housing, food, and utilities. Visions is a big fan of the SVER program and thought it would be a great fit for their donation.
Visions has been supporting the veterans’ service for a number of years, having been introduced to the program by the former coordinator.
“We wanted to make sure we got involved supporting in a highly visible way,” said Timothy Strong, Business Development Manager at Visions Federal Credit Union. “We will continue supporting events like local concerts and baseball games recognizing veterans.”
