DJ battle benefit at Sparta HS

SPARTA — Amp The Vibe presents a benefit Spring Spin-Off DJ Battle at Sparta High School on Saturday, May 6 from 5 to 9PM. All proceeds will go to the Sparta High School Music Department and the Isak Anderson Fund with the Sparta Education Foundation. A scholarship fund in Isak’s name is established for students who choose to pursue music at college. The class selling the most tickets will receive a $500 donation to their class fund.
Two preview performances were held during lunch at Sparta High School’s cafeteria on Thursday and Friday, April 6 and 7. DJ Ran and beatbox artist Honeycomb had students on their feet at Thursday’s event, and Honeycomb walked through the crowd to encourage students to participate with their own performances. The high-energy show was a sneak peek at this event which promises to bring the Brooklyn nightclub scene to the Sparta High School Auditorium.
Surveying groups of dancing students, the lively DJ set up a light show, Sparta High School Student Council Secretary Bayleigh Takacs said “I think it’s going to be a great event, everyone has their phones out and everyone is talking about it. There’s nothing else like this in Sussex County.”
Amp The Vibe, a 501 (c) 3 organization, was created by three Sparta residents: Andy Garger, George Plock and John Willis.
“Amp The Vibe is all about helping people through music whatever way we can,” Garger said. “We support the Music Department at Sparta High School and the recording studio made with funds from the Isak Anderson Fund in Isak’s name is almost done. We hope to contribute even more to the recording studio and Music Department by making this an annual event. The Spring Spin-Off DJ Battle will feature professional DJs, beatboxers and hip hop dancers as well as prizes and giveaways. Over $100,000 worth of sound, light and laser equipment will transform the auditorium into an exciting performance space that has never been seen before in our area.”
