Dream Day returns to Sussex County
Newton — On September 29, 2018, The DreamGirls Initiative will be hosting their popular Dream Day workshop. This free event is open any girl in grades 6th through 8th grade. Dream Day will take place at Newton High School, 44 Ryerson Avenue, Newton, NJ from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is free. However, registration is required. Online registration can be completed at tinyurl.com/DD2018Newton.
From the moment participants arrive, they realize this is not just an event centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Participants enter a lively, music-filled atmosphere where they meet other middle school girls and their high school group leaders. They then are treated to a variety of activities and demonstrations by female engineers and scientists.
Girls will get the opportunity to interact with industry professionals through hands-on activities including making face scrub with L’Oreal, using natural flavors and colors to make their own cookies with B&G Foods, learning about light refraction and colors with Thor Labs, and creating their own lotion with Johnson & Johnson. AT&T and Azelis Americas will also be presenting activities to learn about technology and personal care ingredients.
This free event is made possible through the generosity of local sponsors including Gold Sponsor, Thor Labs. Among other sponsors are Stop and Shop and Newton Walmart.
The DreamGirls Initiative is a nonprofit program committed to closing the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers. DreamGirls programming inspires middle school girls by showcasing female role models working in exciting careers.
