Eight new literacy tutors for Sussex County
NEWTON — In the LiteracyNJ –Sussex Programs about 80 volunteer tutors help local adults improve their use of English: speaking, writing, reading –all necessary for successful maneuvering through everyday life. Some of these adult students are from abroad, learning English anew. Some were born and educated in the U. S. but still need to sharpen their use of the language. With tutoring customized to each student’s needs, they are able to get a job or a promotion, get a driver license, communicate with their children’s teachers and their doctor –to have a much more rewarding life.
Even with these 80 volunteer tutors, there is a waiting list of adults seeking such help. Eight of those on the waiting list will now be matched with the new tutors who graduated in October from the LiteracyNJ-Sussex tutor training class.
The next training will be offered in Spring 2017. That training begins with an orientation to the tutoring process, which helps the potential volunteer decide whether to pursue the rewards of the tutoring experience. If you would like to be informed of the specifics, as soon as the date and place are settled, call Mary at 973-300-9444 and leave your name and telephone number or email.
