Free diabetes program in Newton

| 06 Feb 2018 | 05:49

    — Since August 2016, 52 Sussex County residents have successfully graduated from a free diabetes program. Supported locally by Healthcare Quality Strategies, Inc. (HQSI), Quality Insights has a partnership with Premier Health Associates to offer this program as part of Everyone with Diabetes Counts (EDC). The EDC program is a national initiative of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The program offers free self-management workshops that are open to people with Medicare who have diabetes, their family members and caregivers.
Originally developed at Stanford University, the Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP) consists of an interactive six-week workshop series where participants learn about healthy eating, exercising at any level, medication management, dealing with stress and depression, preventing complications, and communicating effectively with healthcare providers.
The 52 Sussex County graduates of the program have improved their health and quality of life; they started walking, interacted with others in the community coping with similar challenges, modified eating habits, and lost weight.
This partnership continues to empower people with diabetes in Sussex County, and two workshops will be offered in Newton in the coming weeks:

200 Bristol Glen Drive, Newton, NJ 07860
Mondays, March 5 to April 16 (skipping April 2), 2018
