Free throw champions on to states

— The Knights of Columbus hosted the second round of their annual Free Throw Championship at Reverend Brown School in Sparta.

Winners, ages nine to 14, from local council competitions faced off for an opportunity to represent District 42 in the New Jersey Regional Round in Morris Plains on March 14.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the Knights of Columbus headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions.

Since its beginning in 1972, over 2.5 million youths have participated in the free throw contest.

The winners of the District 42 Free Throw Championship were Melia Myers (9); Max Bonnstetter (10); Jake Christiano (11); Alexis Lillis (11); Caileigh Walsh (12); Erin Walsh (14); and Eric Lavin (14).
