— Chabad of Sussex County will host a comedy fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7 pm featuring Sparta’s own Missy Allan.
Accompanying Allan will be comedian Eddie Clark ‘talking about his every day life and views on everything.’ Allan describes the material as clean, kosher comedy.
The event is open to the public and non-members, and tickets are $35 each.
Chabad of Sussex County, located at 266 Woodport Road in Sparta, was established in 2002. Rabbi and Director Mendel Dubov has been at the helm for the past six years.
“Chabad is an outreach organization. We look to engage Jews and non-Jews in Jewish life,” said Dubov. “We ask people to join on the level that they are comfortable with.”
Dubov added that there is no pre-condition to joining and no membership fee.
Professional comedienne and Sparta resident Allan and her daughter are members of the Chabad, the only one in Sussex County. Here is a preview of her shtick:
“I am thrilled to bring stand-up comedy to the Chabad for a night of laughter and love to help build this amazing temple that Sparta is in desperate need of. After listening to me talk about myself for 30 minutes, it makes you feel like you have the best life possible so look at it as a therapy session."
Funds raised at the comedy event will go towards a building project. Presently the Chabad is operating out of a renovated garage where weekly services are offered and other activities. More information can be found at www.jewishsussex.com
“Your address for everything Jewish” is how Dubov describes Chabad of Sussex County.
“Jews want to be Jewish. We are here to take it forward and out of the closet,” said Dubov. “Every year has grown here.”
