Hilltop hosts National Engineers Week

SPARTA ‑‑ Hilltop Country Day School will kick off Engineers Week on Tuesday, Feb. 20 with a design challenge for students.
National Engineers Week began in 1951 in conjunction with President Washington's birthday. Washington is considered the nation's first engineer and the event emphasizes the importance of learning math, science and technical skills, according to Laura Mc Gee, Assistant Head of School.
"Inspiring Wonder" is this year's theme, and Hilltop will host a variety of school- wide and community -invited events celebrating how engineers make a difference in our world.
On Tuesday, Feb. 20, Engineering Design challenges will take place for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders at 10 a.m. and for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade challenges at 12:30 p.m. Local students who do not attend Hilltop and are off for the President's Day holiday are invited to join Hilltop’s Engineering Day challenges.
Additionally, on Thursday, Feb. 22 , Hilltop will host an after-school workshop “Introduce a Girl Engineering Day." This day is intended to give girls a chance to think like an engineer. This after school event is for all girls Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 8. The event will begin at 3 p.m. and run through 4:30 p.m.
Engineers Week at Hilltop will end with our middle school annual Science Olympics. Our middle school students collaborated in groups by grade level to solve and construct three engineering challenges. This year's challenges include Battle Bots, Propeller Cars and a Hydraulic lift.
