House fire ends in total loss of Sparta residence
Sparta - An early morning fire broke out in the garage of a home, owned by the Fossett family, at 127 Old Prospect Rd. in Sparta, ending in total loss of the residence. The Fossett family members who were at home at the time, were able to get out before the house was fully engulfed; a mother, two young sons, and grandmother. The husband/father had already left for work. Sparta Police Lt. John Lamon said the house was a total loss. Police also said that the family was able to remove their cat and dog from the residence, but one cat is still missing and is feared to have died in the fire.
All of the family members were uninjured. Sparta Detectives as well as members of the Prosecutor’s Office were on scene and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Police said that the fire appeared to have started in the garage area, leading to the residence becoming fully engulfed.
"Our detective Sergeant. is investigating now," said Lamon. "Right now, just because of the cold, everything is frozen, so they’re having to dig through the frozen ice, from the water, just to determine the cause."
