Importance of pollinators, Part 2
SPARTA — In conjunction with Sparta Historical Society’s spring exhibit “Life along the Wallkill” touching on one of Sparta’s initial industry of farming, and in promoting their own Sparta Community Gardens with its certified butterfly garden, this is a second in a short series on the importance of pollinators. We begin with a pollinators’ (bees, butterflies, hummingbirds) and regular plant sale by local business, Nestor’s Greenhouse from Andover, NJ. Following this 6 pm to 7 pm plant sale, continue to learn on the how, why, and the best ways to naturally encourage a productive garden by listening to Jeannie Geremia, VP of NJ Garden Clubs, on “Creating a Pollinators’ Garden.” Pollinators are her passion and she is notable and instrumental in the naming of the Black Swallowtail as New Jersey State Butterfly a few years ago. She also leads, inspires and provides education and outreach opportunities on the importance of pollination and wildlife habitat gardens. All home gardeners or want-to-be home gardeners are encouraged to attend.
This natural history program lecture will be held on Thursday, May 10 at First Presbyterian Church located at 32 Main Street from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Those attending will have a chance to ask questions about the topic. Following the presentation, light refreshments will be served. Members are free, non-members $5. As stated above, prior to the presentation, a pollinators and regular plant sale hosted by Nestor’s Greenhouse will be held from 6 pm to 7 pm.
