Lake Mohawk will conduct lifeguarding course

SPARTA — Lake Mohawk Country Club will be conducting at Waterfront Lifeguarding course for both LMCC members and non members.
“There is a shortage of lifeguards, not just in our area, but nationwide, “ stated Rich Carlson, Waterfront Director for Lake Mohawk CC. “We consistently get requests and inquiries from other lakes about how to get lifeguards.”
Even the state parks had trouble recently staffing some of their beaches in Sussex County. So as a community service, LMCC is opening up their lifeguarding certification to non members.
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course for Waterfront will be offered from July 9th to July 20th. This course is a basic requirement to become considered for a Waterfront Lifeguard position. Candidates must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of the course (July 20). Pre registration is required. The course will be open to non LMCC members. Cost is $225.00 for LMCC Members and $300.00 for non LMCC members.
Participants who successfully complete the course will be certified in Waterfront Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. Although the minimum age for entry into this course is 15, State and Federal regulations restrict Lifeguards assigned to waterfronts, ie. Lakes, ponds, oceans, rivers, to be at least 16 yrs. of age.
