Lawyers perform to help fight breast cancer

SPARTA — Mohawk House will host a cabaret fundraiser on Sunday, Mar.11 for Friend2Friend, Sussex County Women’s Forum. local cabaret group, the Causal Connections, will provide entertainment with a presentation: Objection! Songs We Shouldn’t Sing.
Friend2Friend is a non-profit organization that assists women and their families whose lives are impacted by a cancer diagnosis. One of the services offered by F2F is a free digital mammography program
The Causal Connections are not your typical performers; in fact, by profession they are lawyers on a mission to serve the public in more ways than one — that is, by singing and acting, too.
Lauren Fraser, partner at Fraser Cerra LLC Attorneys at Law in Sparta is a member of Causal Connections along with fellow attorneys Luisa Fuentes, Jean Cavaliere and Lori Bennett. Musical direction and arrangement is by Rozanne Sullivan, another attorney.
The Causal Connections take their name from a legal term and this is not their first rodeo. They have all moonlighted in musical theatre for the past 15 years and consider themselves professional dancers and singers.
“We have collaborated with Mohawk House before — last October with a 200 Club benefit where we performed an original murder mystery “ Death at Pershing Papoose.” Fraser explained. "From that Steve and I have talked about more performing arts and giving back to the community.”
Steve is Steve Scro, owner with his wife Rachael Scro of the Mohawk House.
The lawyers classify the show as ‘adult only and risqué’ with songs from “Avenue Q,” "Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “The Color Purple.”
“People think attorneys are stuffed shirts and boring," Fraser said. "We are trying to show them that there is a depth to us.”
“And maybe even a lewd and inappropriate side –all in good fun and music while benefiting a great cause,” Fuentes added.
Tickets for Objection! Songs We Shouldn’t Sing are $50 per person for the show, which will have only two performances on Mar 11 at 3pm and 7pm. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Friend2Friend.
In addition, the Scros will donate a portion of food and beverage proceeds purchased at the shows to the organization. An a-la-carte menu will be available with a lunch seating starting at 1pm before the 3pm show and a dinner seating starting at 5pm before the 7pm show.
“Mohawk House is honored to be aligning with Friend2Friend Sussex County Women’s Forum and The Casual Connections. The evening promises to be very entertaining while benefitting a great, local organization,” Steve Scro said.
