Locals enjoy Sparta Day

SPARTA — On Saturday, May 17, the Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta together with the Sparta Parks and Recreation, hosted the 39th annual Sparta Day at Station Park.
Thousands of people strolled pathways lined with over 120 vendors and sponsors on a beautiful sunny day.
For the eighth year in a row, Eastern Propane was the platinum sponsor of Kids’ Country, one of the most popular areas of Sparta Day. Thanks to Eastern Propane and many local businesses, activities in Kids’ Country were offered at no cost to the community.
Children enjoyed a 65-foot obstacle course and a Velcro wall, as well as an inflatable slide sponsored by Wellness Pediatrics and a bounce house sponsored by Lake Mohawk Country Club. Families had a great time making silly faces at the free photo booth sponsored by Rokstar Entertainment.
Sparta Day was also filled with music including two DJ booths sponsored by Sparta Driving School and Parisi Speed School.
Beautiful balloons arches marked the entrances, decorated with the support of Newton Medical Center, as volunteers handed out complimentary Sparta Day tote bags sponsored by Lake Mohawk Pool. People stopped by the Skylands Ice World beverage center for free water from Lowe’s of Newton and event volunteers wore Sparta Day T-shirts sponsored by Realty Executives.
Participants in this year’s silent auction were bidding on items ranging from jewelry from J.Thomas Jewelers to a Lake Mohawk Pool membership.
Another highlight of the event was the New Jersey Hall of Fame Mobile Museum that was hosted by the Sparta Education Foundation with support from the Sussex County Education Association.
The Mobile Museum offered a dramatic multimedia exhibition created around the theme “Make a Difference.” Through images, artifacts, film, and interactive elements, visitors explored the ways that Hall of Fame inductees have changed the state and the world as innovators, leaders and as voices for the voiceless, often against overwhelming odds.
The Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta is celebrating its 47th year of volunteer service in Sparta.
